I"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>by Vic Zoschak, Jr.<\/em><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3371\" style=\"width: 410px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3371\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-3371\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.tavbooks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/IMG_1981.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1981\" width=\"400\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blog.tavbooks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/IMG_1981.jpg 3660w, http:\/\/blog.tavbooks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/IMG_1981-624x349.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-3371\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Dinner at Roxy&#8217;s could tempt us all!<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #222222;\">Reading colleagues\u2019 comments with regard to the recent Brooklyn event, allow me to put in a plug for the Sacramento Antiquarian Fair, held this past weekend.\u00a0 A semi-annual event, hosted by Jim Kay, I suspect it doesn\u2019t have the panache of Brooklyn, but that said, it has come to be beloved by those of us on the west coast, drawing exhibitors from both ends of the coast, not to mention a fellow bookseller who routinely makes the trek from out Utah way\u2026\u00a0 that said, despite the close proximity of Sacramento, I suspect David flew east for the weekend, for the local event definitely has a Californiana bias in exhibitor offerings, and that not David\u2019s metier ime, but it is one of mine. Given that, from an ABAA colleague I bought a [what I consider to be] fantastic item: an 1853 Sacramento Directory, and as I recall, the second Sacramento city directory ever published, this one an inscribed presentation copy from the publisher to the man considered to be Sacramento\u2019s first mayor.\u00a0 Plus *bunches* of other neat stuff, filling over two boxes, and occasioning Samm\u2019s questioning look: \u201cHow the heck are we going to get all this stuff in the car?!?&#8221;<\/span><br style=\"color: #222222;\" \/><br style=\"color: #222222;\" \/><span style=\"color: #222222;\">I have no doubt the food &amp; beverage choices in Brooklyn are myriad, however, I\u2019d stack up the fair\u2019s local concession\u2019s Chicken Pesto sandwich against any comer offered elsewhere [Taylor, feel free to offer your thoughts here\u00a0 \ud83d\ude09 ].\u00a0 And the pre-fair, post-setup\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"aBn\" style=\"color: #222222;\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_255591377\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Friday<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #222222;\">\u00a0night dinner at Roxy has become traditional, this time around, shared with 9 colleagues\u2026 Chuck, Roxy&#8217;s Manhattan might even tempt you.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><br style=\"color: #222222;\" \/><br style=\"color: #222222;\" \/><span style=\"color: #222222;\">So, it seems we have two credible regional events on this same weekend in September, and for that I\u2019m thankful.\u00a0 Here on the West Coast, we\u2019ve lost so many regional fairs over the last decade or two that it\u2019s gratifying this one is thriving [I understand a new fair attendance record was set yesterday].\u00a0 Further, Jim tells us it\u2019s here to stay as long as he is.\u00a0 I should add, it\u2019s relatively inexpensive to exhibit\u2026 my half-booth, with display case, was a modest $385.<\/span><br style=\"color: #222222;\" \/><br style=\"color: #222222;\" \/><span style=\"color: #222222;\">Finally, I personally like the fact that the Sacramento show is a one day event.\u00a0 I got home last night by\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"aBn\" style=\"color: #222222;\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_255591378\"><span class=\"aQJ\">7 pm<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #222222;\">, slept in my own bed, and today, get to watch Jimmy G &amp; cast take on the Vikings\u2026 in other words, no standing around in the booth on a quiet Sunday, hands in pockets, watching the clock sloooowly make its way towards\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"aBn\" style=\"color: #222222;\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_255591379\"><span class=\"aQJ\">5 pm.<\/span><\/span><br style=\"color: #222222;\" \/><br style=\"color: #222222;\" \/><span style=\"color: #222222;\">Very civilized, promoters please take note.<\/span><br style=\"color: #222222;\" \/><br style=\"color: #222222;\" \/><span style=\"color: #222222;\">V.<\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom:20px; padding-top:10px;\" class=\"hupso-share-buttons\"><!-- Hupso Share Buttons - http:\/\/www.hupso.com\/share\/ --><a class=\"hupso_toolbar\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hupso.com\/share\/\"><img src=\"http:\/\/static.hupso.com\/share\/buttons\/share-medium.png\" style=\"border:0px; padding-top:5px; float:left;\" alt=\"Share\"\/><\/a><script type=\"text\/javascript\">var hupso_services_t=new Array(\"Twitter\",\"Facebook\",\"Google Plus\",\"Linkedin\",\"StumbleUpon\",\"Digg\",\"Reddit\",\"Bebo\",\"Delicious\"); var hupso_toolbar_size_t=\"medium\";var hupso_title_t=\"Report on the Sacramento Antiquarian Book Fair, Pt.
